Overmoulded thermoplastic composite decorated panel for a coffee machine

Winner: Nestle Nespresso S.A. (Switzerland)

Partners: RocTool SA (France), Flextronics Manufacturing (China)

A particularly interesting technology was used for this project: called compression moulding, it offers customers an innovative finish on the new Nespresso Pixie Clips coffee machine.

Specifically, this technology enable finishes such as jean, Cordura, wood, and carbon fibre.

This innovative technology also makes it possible to give the final product an exclusive look and feel, enlarging the panel of choices for customers and bringing a premium quality to the coffee machine itself.

The Pixie Clips machine was meant to be customized with different panels and finishes. The use of composite materials in a coffee machine widened the number of available opportunities. After the launching phase, the public response was very enthusiastic.

The key benefit for Nespresso is to make new materials and finishes available for the customers, thus enlarging the offer and associating the Nespresso brand to this innovation.
